I haven't told Rene that Nicky's not going to make it. I just don't know how to explain that to him. When he saw Nicky's photo (I was working on the Facebook page for this effort). His face lit up, "Oh! It's my friend!" He cried happily.
Nicky and Rene took comfort in each other's presence at RMH and the Oncology clinic last year. Nicky's mom, Zena would come squeezing out ot isolation rooms where Nicky was resting after his transplant and say, "Nicky heard Rene's voice in the hall and said, "Oh good mom, Rene is here."
I wish we could do more for Nicky and his family, but we are all just little human beings.
Dear Friends & Family,
As parents of children who have undergone treatment for cancer we know that while your child is ill, the bills still need to be paid and food put on the table -- yet all you want to do is spend time with your precious child and family. Our children’s cancer treatments have produced very good outcomes. But this is not true for all pediatric cancer patients. This is not the case for fifteen year old Nicky Paul. We met and became friends with the Paul family at Ronald McDonald House when our children were in Vancouver for cancer treatment in 2010.
If you have a few dollars to give to the Paul family, please give them the gift of time together. The Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre Association (CCCDCA) is collecting donations to hold in trust for Nicky Paul’s family. Their site has a secure link to a special PayPal account where you can donate online. If you are skittish about using PayPal, the centre is also able to accept cheques. The CCCDCA will issue tax receipts. You can learn more about Nicky Paul and access the CCCDCA donation page by clicking this link: http://www.cccdca.org/index.asp?p=104.
Even the smallest donation will combine with all of the others to make a big difference for this family as they face the nightmare of losing Nicky. Please pass on this message to other people you believe may be able to help. If you are on Facebook, please feel free to share our plea and the link to the CCCDCA. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Help-Nicky-Paul-and-His-Family/152661728153899
